Let’s go fishing! Magical words for the enthusiastic fisherman and the Rosetta area is filled with opportunities including dam and river fishing, both bass and trout. Visitors may wish to stay at a venue that offers fishing, while new residents in Rosetta will soon find their favourite places.
The Maloti-Drakensberg Park offers excellent dam and river fishing (including fly-fishing) both at Highmoor and Kamberg Nature Reserves, and a little further away at Giant’s Castle Nature Reserve. Rosetta boasts private homes and accommodation venues along the banks of the Mooi River as it flows towards the Mearns Dam; these have access to fishing. Only properties that border Mearns Dam has the use of this dam, however. A number of self-catering cottages in the area also offer dam fishing opportunities.
Further information on Fly-Fishing can be obtained from the Natal Fly Fish Fishers’ Club.

There are many opportunities to pursue this hugely popular recreational sport from a base in Rosetta, with some trails being suitable for family parties. All offer an opportunity to be out in the fresh air in a beautiful environment, whether in plantation forests or along a farm trail.
For the more competitive rider, a number of mainstream biking race events are held in the surrounding Midlands area, particularly in the Kamberg Valley at Glengarry and a little further away, in the Karkloof, where trails through the plantations offer some of the finest riding in South Africa. The Glengarry trail offers spectacular mountain scenery close to the border of the Maloti-Drakensberg Park. There are other mountain trail events in the northern Drakensberg, accessible from Rosetta.
Further details on Mountain Biking events can be found at MTB Routes.
